Dr. Smith was born in Auburn, AL and raised in Baton Rouge. He graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1975. He then attended L.S.U. and received a B.S. in Zoology in 1979. After graduating from L.S.U. School of Medicine in New Orleans in 1983, he completed a transitional internship at Earl K. Long Memorial Hospital in Baton Rouge. His Emergency Medicine career began at University Medical Center in Lafayette in 1984-1985 as a staff physician for L.S.U., after which he has spent the last 22 years as a staff physician and the Emergency Medical Services Director at Southwest Medical Center.He is Board Certified in Emergency Medicine and received the honor of being named “Best Primary Care Physician” by the Times of Acadiana in both 2007 and 2008. Dr. Smith now brings his 23 years of Emergency Medicine experience, as well as his caring, professional demeanor, to Acadiana Urgent Care Center.
Dr. LaPointe was born in Lafayette and raised in New Orleans. He graduated from Jesuit High School in 1973. He received his B.A. in Biology at the University of New Orleans in 1977. Upon graduating from L.S.U. School of Medicine in New Orleans in 1982, he completed a surgical internship at Carraway Methodist Medical Center in Birmingham, AL. He began his Emergency Medicine career in Cullman, AL in 1983 and practiced there until 1987, when he returned to Lafayette, Louisiana. Dr. LaPointe then spent the next 20 years as a staff physician in the EmergencyDepartment at Southwest Medical Center with his current partner at Acadiana Urgent Care Center, Dr. Kirk Smith. He received Board Certification in Emergency Medicine in 1992. His 24 years of Emergency Medicine experience make him especially well suited to handle the various medical conditions that may present to Acadiana Urgent Care Center.

She began her career in Emergency Medicine at University Medical Center in 1984, serving as a staff physician for L.S.U. until 1985. She has spent the last 22 years of her Emergency Medicine career at Southwest Medical Center, serving as both a staff physician and past Emergency Medical Services Director. Dr. Smith received Board Certification in Emergency Medicine in 1997 and now looks forward to bringing her 23 years of Emergency Medicine experience and compassionate care to Acadiana Urgent Care Center.
